Feed My People is a breakfast program administered by Foundation for the Homeless here in Austin.
Tuesday Breakfast for the Homeless –
Tuesday mornings at 5:15 am, volunteers from various churches gather downtown at 1st United Methodist to cook and serve breakfast to the homeless. WUMC is "in charge" each first Tuesday. Call Peggy Davis, 327-1806.
The Feed My People Program is a collaboration of 11 religious congregations in the Austin community that provide the facilities, volunteers, and donations necessary to serve the guests. The Feed My People Program provides a morning meal twice a week with services including showers, haircuts, hygiene articles, clothing, eyeglass referrals, Capital Metro bus tickets, and assistance with birth certificates and identification cards. Breakfast and services are provided at First United Methodist, Family Life Center at 1201 Lavaca Street.
Features of Feed My People:
- Hot breakfast provided and served by volunteers from 11 congregations
- Breakfast is served on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 6:00 AM to 6:45 AM
- Clothing is provided when available
- Hot showers provided at the Family Life Center on Tuesdays only
- Haircuts and massages provided periodically when volunteers are available to provide these services
- Eyeglass referrals are provided on a case by case basis
- Direct assistance with Capital Metro bus tickets, birth certificates, and I.D. cards
- Caring individuals to provide a listening ear and emotional support when requested
