Mission
The mission of the Foundation for the Homeless, Inc., is to mobilize the resources of the community of faith to alleviate homelessness in the spirit of compassion, hope, and love.
For over 20 years, Foundation for the Homeless, Inc. (FFH), has worked to organize resources from the faith communities to alleviate the suffering of homeless people in Austin, Texas.
FFH assists people in their work toward a self-sufficient lifestyle. FFH carries out its work by building relationships between thousands of volunteers from local faith communities and homeless families with children.
Did you know that roughly 20% of children in Travis County live in poverty and that one in three chilren raised in poverty remain in poverty! A study in 2006 by the Center for Housing Policy indicated that the cost of childhood poverty in Texas was $57.5B annually. With the impact of the economy in the last couple of years, that number may have double, but at any rate, certainly has increased substantially. Around 10% of the impoverished children in Texas are right here in Austin and that rate is growing faster here than the rate for Texas, which is already the highest of any state.
In 2009 alone, FFH helped over 50 families obtain or retain safe, secure housing. Most also either found jobs or found better jobs. We ARE making a difference. Check us out on YouTube! www.youtube.com/watch or read our newsletter.
Westlake United Methodist provides volunteers and financial support to FFH through two of our programs:
