Hospitality Room for Our Guests
Please join the pastors in the Library/Parlor next to the sanctuary following
the worship services so that we can meet and greet you personally. We'd
love to get to know you better! Refreshments will be served.
COMING EVENTS
Church
Conference Meeting
There will be a Church Conference Meeting on Monday, May 5 at 7:00 pm in the
Sanctuary for the purpose of approving the purchase of Building M for $1.25
million with financing by the Texas Methodist Foundation. All church members are
encouraged to attend.

We Celebrate Pentecost with our newly confirmed members leading the worship
service. Wear Red!! to acknowledge the Holy Spirit among us.

You are invited to the wedding celebration of Abby Parker and Tom
Czerwinski on May 19 at 2:00 p.m. in the afternoon at Travis Park UMC in San
Antonio. A reception will follow at the church.

Time to Build Up!
We are still receiving commitments to “A Time to Build Up,” our capital campaign
to extend our ministry through the purchase of Office building M at our back door. Please place your pledge card in the
offering plate or return it to the church office or email it to
MStandifer@westlake-umc.org.
Prayer
Group to Meet on Wednesdays
“Build
yourselves up in this most holy faith by praying in the Holy Spirit…”
Jude 21.
Come to
the church Library each Wednesday from 11:00 am to noon to pray for our
congregation in this Capital Campaign season. Everyone is invited. If you
can not physically come, pause for a period of prayer wherever you are
during this “hour of prayer.” If you have prayer concerns, please call Nancy
Snyder 327-1561 or the church office.
The Church Directories are Here!
If you or your family had your picture taken for the directory you may pick up
your copy from the Service Desk in the narthex. You will find an envelope with
your name on it. If you did not have your picture taken, but would like to
have a copy you can drop by the church office and pick up one while supplies
last.
Youth
Geranium Sale
Are you getting that itch to start planting flowers? On Sunday April 27 and May
4, the Youth will have beautiful geraniums of all colors on sale. These are 6”
potted geraniums grown at Fredericksburg Farms and their quality is unmatched!
The cost is $7 each or 3 for $20. this is a fundraiser for Youth Mission trips
this summer.

High School and College Seniors
If you have a senior in High School or College who will graduate in May, please
call or email Abby Parker at 327-1335 Ext. 23 or AParker@westlake-umc.org.
with their name and the school they attend by Monday May 12. We want to
recognize them in both the 9:00 am and 11:15 am worship services on May 18.
All family and friends of the 2008 graduating
class of Westlake High School are cordially invited to the Baccalaureate Service
on Sunday, May 25 at 5:00 pm at River Bend Church.
Any
Baby Can Diaper Drive
As Mother’s Day approaches, the Service Committee would like to encourage all to
participate in the annual Any
Baby Can Diaper Drive.
You may participate in several ways. You can donate packages of diapers (larger
sizes especially needed). Or you may make a cash donation – checks payable to
Westlake UMC noted for ABC Diapers. If you would like to make this donation in
honor of a special mom, grandmother, aunt. . . please attach a note so
indicating. There will be a “playpen” in the narthex where you may place donated
diapers. On behalf of moms in need …THANK YOU!!
The Welcome Committee Needs your Help
A welcoming church grows out of a life style of loving hospitality. Here’s your
chance to help. We need volunteers to bring baked goods or fruit for the Welcome
Room on Sunday mornings. If you want to help you can sign up on the bulletin
board across from the Church Office or call Rev. Jim Austin, at 327-1335 or
JAustin@westlake-umc.org.
Summer
Musical Fun Camp-August 4-8
Registration is open for our annual musical fun camp! This camp is open to
incoming Kindergarteners through outgoing 5th graders. The camp
director will be Linda Cox, and our fabulous choreographer will be Mary Jane
Gilliam (Elena’s grandmother). Our musical this year is “The Tale of Three
Trees.” The camp runs from 9:30 am-1:30 pm Mon.-Thursday with a break for lunch.
On Friday we will start at the regular time with a performance for friends and
family at 12:00 noon followed by a pizza lunch.
Registration is limited so register now! The cost
is $50.00. Email Diana at
dsanchez-bushong@westlake-umc.org or call 327-1335 ext 15. Volunteers, youth
and adults, are needed to help shepherd the children in all the activities.
Children’s Ministries
The Children’s Ministries Council is seeking teachers for the Children’s
Christian Education program for the 2008-09 Sunday School year.
We ask you to prayerfully consider the ministry
of teaching…the gift of listening to God with children. For more information,
call Hilary Martin at 327-1335 ext. 24 or Eddy Hays at 732-0360.
DISCIPLESHIP Opportunities 2007-08
Would you like to know more about opportunities for Workshops, Retreats,
Training events that are available from the Southwest Texas Conference of The
United Methodist Church? If so go to
www.umcswtx.org and click on DISCIPLESHIP for a list of events planned for
2007 and 2008. A list of events can also be found on the Adult Education
bulletin board outside of the Pastor’s Office.

because we do not have your correct email address. If you would like to
receive information from us via email, please fill your address in on the
registration form of attendance, send your email address to office@westlake-umc.org
or call the church office at 327-1335.
Altar
Flowers
The Altar Flowers Calendar is posted on the bulletin board across from the
church office. If you are interested in providing altar flowers to honor
someone or in memory of someone please sign up.
The flowers can be taken home after the late service
on the Sunday that you provide them.
Honor Someone!
A Memorial gift to the Westlake UMC Permanent Endowment Fund in honor of a
friend or loved one is a lasting tribute to their memory.
