Summer Music & Arts Academy

Summer's here--time to relax and restore your soul!

This summer WUMC will be offering a variety of classes in the Music & Arts Academyo.  These classes will take place during the 12 weeks of summer, from June 1st to August 21st.  We are offering ongoing lessons in piano, voice, violin, yoga, and French, as well as a variety of short-term classes.

Ongoing Summer Lessons

Piano

Anne Adams will teach piano. Half hour lessons are $25.80.  For more information contact Anne at anneadams13@sbcglobal.net

Violin  

Jill Dally will teach violin for 12 week sessions.  Half-hour lessons will cost $25.00.  For more information contact her at jillette4u@yahoo.com

Voice

Learn to sing this summer!  A voice teacher will be offering voice lessons for all ages. Take 8 lessons for $240 (30 minutes each) or $380 (45 minutes each)  For more information contact Diana at dsanchez-bushong@Westlake-umc.org.   

French

Anne Adams will offer instruction in French for ages 5-11, using songs and games to teach the language.  Fees for this class will depend upon class size: for a class of 5 students, lessons would be $8 per class per person; for a class of 7, lessons would be $6 per class per person.  For more information contact Ann at anneadams13@sbcglobal.net.

 Yoga at WUMC

Mondays and Wednesdays, 9:30 a.m.  The purpose of Yoga is to awaken your consciousness...to help you become aware of all that you can be.  The ancient art and science of Kundalini Yoga balances the glandular system, strengthens the 72,000 nerves of the body, expands the lung capapcity, purifies the blood and helps all who practice become aware of all they can be.   This balancing practice comgines the consious breathing, mantras, and helth promoting physical postures to achieve physical, mental and spiritual balance.  Your teacher, Angela George, has been a practicing Yogini for 15 years and has been teaching Yoga for 3 years.

 Short Term Summer Classes

Introduction to Pastels

One class overview to work with various types of pastels and substrates (papers). $25 fee includes supplies. Judi Hays, Instructor.

Projects in Pastels

A 2-4 week class where students work on individual projects. $10 per session and students supply materials

Photography

A 4-week class where students explore the basic aspects of photography. Students will have homework assignments and a chance to share them with the group.

Weaving

Learn the art of Navajo weaving with Cathy Barton.  $100 fee includes loom.

Introductory Cardmaking

A single-class introductory course of 2 hours with Adele Peterman in which you will learn a variety of techniques of cardmaking.  Adele makes fantastic cards!  You will learn an art that you can easily use to send original cards to family and friends.  Fee $15.

Cards from Nature

A 2-4 week course with Judi Hays in which you will work on a variety of cards and card keepers, using pressed flowers and leaves.  Judi's techniques are breathtakingly original.  $10 per class, supplies included.

Watercolor

A 4-week class working with artist Scott Thompson for students age 13 and up. 

West African Hand Drumming

A 4-week class with Mae Stoll.  Discover the joy of the Djembe and play some beautiful African rhythms in your very first class!  No musical experience necessary! Class drums provided with optional $5/week take home rental.   For adults and children 10 and over.  $75 fee.
